Concert Review: The More Gumbo Tour

PJ Morton and Darius Scott brought soul to Austin on November 25th. The More Gumbo Tour started off in Japan following the release of Gumbo Unplugged (Live) and brought its way back to the states earlier this month. Concertgoers packed tightly into Stubb’s Indoors on a cold Sunday night for the sold out show. The intimate venue provided the perfect energy exchange from artist to audience and vice versa. Former The Voice contestant Darius Scott opened the show in place of Grace Weber. Scott took the audience to church as he performed “They,” “Soca”, and “I Want You” flexing his vocal range. Audience members shrieked in excitement for every high note he nailed. After a brief intermission, PJ Morton emerged on stage behind a keyboard backed by a full band and two vocalists. The New Orleans native had the audience swaying and singing along as he performed “Have You Seen Her.” Morton paused to remind the  audience to always be themselves no matter who tries to change them before performing “Claustrophobic.” The song from his album Gumbo explains how the industry tried to change him and why he returned to his roots. With flawless transitions Morton continued on to perform songs including “Superstar” and “Religion.”
